Chemistry is a two-semester, college-prep, lab science. Students study a rigorous scope and sequence which includes Mixtures, Law of Definite Proportions, Law of Multiple Proportions, Electromagnetic Spectrum, Lewis Structures, Ionic Bonds, Covalent Bonds, Physical and Chemical changes, Stoichiometry, Solutions, Gases, Acids, Bases, Oxidation-Reduction, Thermodynamics, and Chemical Kinetics and Equilibrium. The labs are a combination of textbook labs and supplemental labs that engage the students and enable them to develop effective lab techniques, gather meaningful data, make astute observations, and complete thoughtful analyses. The focus of class time is on the introduction of concepts and completion of labs. Recommended weekly outside study time: three to five hours.
